Once upon a time the Natives planted Corn, Yellow Green Beans and Squash near each other. See video. Conscious farmers still do. Its a perfect relationship between the corn the squash and beans, everyone benefits. Like family. The blessing of living in Los Angeles is the options of fresh produce at the Farmers Market, I don’t mean to sound obnoxious but honestly I find most often that the farmers market is less expensive than the grocery store, if you know how to shop and build relationships with the farmers. Relationships, just like the the Three sisters right, have your three farmers. Ay, anyways, back to what I left of, Three Sisters yes, Three Sisters, that’s the name the Natives gave the trio. This recipe does not have the squash that’s why I am calling it Two Sisters. As always I invite you to experiment with ingredients, but remember always making choices that serve your intention. Here’s what you need and how to do it.
20 YELLOW GREEN BEANS I mean is that even their real name? I tried to find out, I promise. These are crispy fresh when eaten raw and when slightly grilled the taste reminds me of something I would have at Nanbankan. In this recipe we are going to do both grilled and raw. Low in calories and high in nutritional value, boosts magnesium and iron intake.
2 CORN STEAMED/BOILED
Non GMO Organic. Dont compromise on this.
2 TOMATOES DICED –If you live in Hollywood the tomato guy (at the north east side of the market on Ivar and Hollywood Blvd. across the street from Eva Langoria’s Restaurant, BESO) has the meatiest, bright and perfectly imperfect tomatoes.
1/2 Onion Diced if you’ve got the time soak in lemon/ lime juice, reminds me of my grandmothers cooking. ahhhhhhh.
1 cup Salad Greens.
2 tbs. Olive Oil
2 Cloves Garlic Crushed
Heat up a sauce pan and a little olive oil and grill the 17 Yellow Green Beans. Don’t over cook.
Throw in the diced onions and garlic
Keep it moving. Until you so golden spots allow to cool a little
Dice the remaining fresh Yellow Green Beans and mix with the Salad Greens and remaining oil.
Place your Salad on the plate
and the grilled green yellow beans on top of that salad.
Pow. mami oh so so good and nutritious.
